Gower community ready to celebrate sesquicentennial anniversary on Sept. 3

The City of Gower will celebrate its 150th birthday on Thursday, September 3. The sesquicentennial celebration will be held on Railroad Street and in the Gower City Park.
This birthday celebration will have a number of aspects, including a special ceremony honoring family members of Alexander Greenwood Gower and Daniel Smith, who are the two original founding fathers of the city. That ceremony will take place at 6:30 p.m. on that Thursday.

The committee is also planning pioneer activities (4 p.m.), which will include different aspects of life common to the period of the town’s founding. A special gift shop will be available for visitors to purchase commemorative items, along with food vendors for those who want to eat that evening.

“Big Time Grain Co.,” a Kansas City band, will be performing both old and new country hits.
