K9 Officer Max gave his life in the line of duty

The St. Joseph Police Department suffered a tragic loss last week when a K9 officer, Max, was shot and killed in the line of duty. Officers were responding to a residence in reference to an arrest warrant when Max was shot. He was rushed for medical treatment but did not survive. The suspect was taken into custody. Max’s partner on the force, Officer Lucas Winder, is formerly of Gower and is a graduate of East Buchanan High School.
A memorial service for Max will be held Friday, July 9 at 3 p.m. in Civic Center Park, 900-1200 Francis Street, St. Joseph. A tribute wall is available online on the Meierhoffer Funeral Home website.
