1969: Tri-County All-Stars

These boys were chosen to represent their league at the Concordia District Tournament starting Wednesday, July 23. Three boys were chosen from each team making up the tri-county league. The boys play their first game at Concordia on Wednesday, July 23 at 5:30, againt the Sedalia National team. 1989: Clubine Sentenced to Four Years

On September 21, 1988, a felony stealing charge was issued against Ruby Clubine, 44, of Turney. She was employed by the Lathrop school district as secretary to the superintendent and the Board of Education. State action was handled by Mitchell Elliot. Cubine acquired the services of Larry Fisher, attorney at Plattsburg. In November, Cubine pled not guilty. However on April 19, 1989, she appeared before the court and plead guilty and entered a plea bargain. She was charged with taking funds from the school and was free on a $25,000 bond ... Her plea bargain included $23,000 payments in advance and $400 a month until a total of $50,000 was paid back. Circuit Judge Griffin rejected her plea-bargain. Clubine then refused a trial by jury which allowed Judge Griffin to set the sentence which could range from 1 to 7 years in prison. Prisons investigation to be conducted. On Wednesday, July 1989, Clubine was sentenced to four years in the Missouri Department of corrections. She then was advised to report to the Clinton County Sheriff at 8 AM on Monday, July 24, 1989 for transportation to the state facilities at Tipton. 

2009: Doug's Barbershop, still clipping along after 30 years

Doug Wilson, owner of Doug's Barbershop in Gower, celebrated 30 years in business with a rec eption last Saturday in Gower. Doug began his barber career in August of 1977 in Kansas City when he attended barder schol. After school, he cut hair in St. Joseph at 8th and Francis beginning on March 15, 1978. On Nov. 5th 1979, he rented the space from "Buck" Smith at 320 Railroad in downtown Gower. Five years later he purchased the building where he is located today. 

"I was pleased with the wonderful turnout on Saturday and couldn't have done it without the help of my wife, Jeff Gray and his crew, along with Warren Karrasch," said Doug. "After 30 years, I'm finally getting some of the haircuts right."

Steve Tinnen, graduate of Plattsburg High School 1969, received bachelor of science degree in Political Science with a minor in History from Missouri Western State University, 1973. Worked in the food and beverage industry from 1973 to 1981 with employment at Henry's Restaurant in Gladstone, MO, as well as KCI Marriott Hotel and Pete's Inn in Kansas City, Missouri. Steve began his newspaper career in 1981 when he joined the Plattsburg Leader under the ownership of his parents, Skip and Franc E. Tinnen. His duties included ad sales, reporting, and feature writing, and he became publisher in 2001. He is the President of CPLO Enterprise, LLC where he is the agent for the Plattsburg License Office. He and his wife, Sue live in Plattsburg and have two children Liz (Tinnen) Keitzer, Jimmy Tinnen, and one granddaughter Maddie.

Brett is a 2004 graduate of Lathrop High School and attended Missouri Western State University until 2006, when he was offered a position at the Lathrop Rural Reporter. He joined the staff of The Clinton County Leader in 2008 and was named the editor in 2017. He has won dozens of awards from the Missouri Press Association, including first place honors for reporting, feature writing, news and sports photography, and page design. In 2015 he won the Missouri Press Association's William E. James Outstanding Young Journalist Award.

Cassidy grew up in the small town of Lyons, KS and graduated from Lyons High School in 2016. She then moved to Liberty, MO to attend William Jewell College. There, she earned a double major in Psychological Science and Applied Critical Thought & Inquiry with a minor in Communication. She is also a member of Alpha Gamma Delta and served as VP Event Planning from 2018 - 2019. In addition, she worked as a Career Specialist/Student Supervisor for the William Jewell College Career Development Office and as an Assistant Planner for a Kansas City wedding agency. Cassidy has two younger siblings, Ashlyn and Treyton, and is the daughter of Ken and Kari Troyer.  In June 2019, she began working at the Clinton County Leader as a Social Media Marketing Specialist.

Nikki grew up near Hemple and graduated from East Buchanan High School in 1992. She is the daughter of Steve and Debi Filley and the sister of Steve Filley the 2nd. She then went on to graduate from Missouri Western State in 1996 with a Bachelor of Science in in Business Administration and Management with a minor in Accounting. In 2007, she married her husband Scott and is now the proud mom of two daughters, Kierston and Kourtney. Nikki began working for the Clinton County Leader as the Sales Representative in 2014.

Linda grew up in Independence, MO and attended Vanhorn High School. She is a huge proponent of community betterment and currently serves as the President of the Lathrop Garden Club. In 2018, Linda was recognized as the Lathrop Rotary Club Citizen of the Year. She began working for the Clinton County Leader as the Event Coordinator in August of 2017.
