A year after the COVID-19 pandemic first took root in Missouri, signs of a major slowdown continue to be strong.
On Monday, March 23, Clinton County Health Department Administrator Blair Shock reported that there was just one active case of COVID-19 in the county. As a result, the county’s total case count since the beginning of the pandemic has stalled, sitting at 1,598 confirmed cases and 472 probable cases. By Clint Dye | Leader Reporter I originally wrote this last year, after East Buchanan football coach Kevin Bryan decided to hang up the whistle and walk away from the sidelines. It was time for Coach Bryan and his wife Traci to enjoy his retirement. My intention was to read this at what I presumed would be a retirement party held in honor of the long-time East Buchanan head coach. But, as we all know, the COVID pandemic put a halt on many things planned for 2020.
With the news that Coach Bryan’s courageous battle with colon cancer has come to a heartbreaking end, I now share this with the heaviest of hearts. East Buchanan head coach Kevin Bryan stands before his team ahead of a district football game in 2017. For decades, Kevin Bryan taught students about life, taught football players about facing adversity, and – with his brave battle against cancer and subsequent return to the sidelines – taught all of us about courage.
Kevin Bryan passed away on Tuesday, March 16, after a four-year fight against colorectal cancer. 50 Years AgoAs published in the March 19, 1971 Leader Do you remember when a movie was filmed here?"Jesse James Under the Black Flag" was the name of a Mesco Pictures Company production presented at Newman's Twelfth Street Theatre in Kansas City on March 20, 1921.

One was a generator for the city’s wastewater treatment plant, and the other was a new patrol car for the police department.
The generator approved by the council will cost $43,780. According to City Manager Carroll Fisher, the company, Power Systems, will deliver the generator, but the city will need to make arrangements to have it offloaded and placed. Fisher said the city’s equipment will not handle the generator (which can weigh up to six tons) and he will be checking with some area individuals to see if they can assist with this issue. The council approved this purchase by a 4-0 vote. There will be a drive-by Food Drive at the First Christian Church in Lathrop from 10 a.m. to noon and 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
