30 Years Ago - Published January 3, 1991 Four on One Justin Pirtle, (white uniform) of the Lathrop Mules is outmanned by four players from East Buchanan. The Mules defeated the Bulldogs on overtime. Coach Hughes of the Mules stated, "The recent LeBlond Tournament was a good one for us. The first was a bit weak, but after that, we got into some very good teams." "We lost to Falls City, NE by 5 points and Fall City is the equivalent of the 3-A (larger) schools in our area. We played hard and lost by only 5 points which was good. We then played East Buchanan for third place and found that the Bulldogs have really improved. We beat them in overtime by 2 points in this tournament." "We want to invite everyone to attend our tournament here in Lathrop next week. It should be a good one... which we know you will enjoy." Newly Elected Officials in Clinton County Judge Steve Griffin, standing in the back swore-in four new officeholders to the county government Wednesday morning, January 2nd in the Clinton County Circuit Courtroom. Those taking office were left to right: Betty Mallen, Circuit Clerk and Ex-Officio Recorder of Deeds, Marcia Murphy, County Commissioner 2nd District, Mary Taylor, County Clerk, and Terry Houghton, County Presiding Commissioner. Nine Officeholders Sworn-in For New Term Circuit Judge Steve Griffin, left swore-in those persons beginning new terms in their various county positions. The ceremony was held Wednesday, January 2nd in the Clinton County Circuit Courtroom. Circuit Clerk Russell Retires The Clinton County Circuit Courtroom was filled with well-wishers, relatives and county-state officials as Helen Russell stepped down as Circuit Clerk and Ex-Officio Recorder of Deeds last week. As always the youth seem to make the best of adverse conditions, as the smiling boys show in their effort to push a stalled auto. County Officials Installed Mrs. Helen Russell, Circuit Clerk, Donald Carter, County Clerk, and Larry Fisher, Prosecuting Attorney, being sworn in by Probate Judge Dick F. Bennett. County Judges Installed Last Wednesday County Clerk Donald Carter, right, swore in the County Judges: Roy G. Walker, Judge of the First District; Ed McPhee, Presiding Judge of the County Court; and Glyndon Berryman, Judge of the Second District.
