Gipson Leads Mules Past Plattsburg Lathrop senior Brock Gipson scored 24 points and led the Lathrop Mules past the Plattsburg Tigers for a 64-55 victory on Friday, February 18. Gipson nailed three, three-point field goals in the first two and half minutes of the game, as the Mules opened with a 13-2 run on their rivals from down the road. Lathrop carried that momentum throughout most of the contest and were up by as much as 21 in the final quarter of the game, but much like they did a week prior against North Platte, the Tigers clawed back into the contest. In the final four minutes of the game Plattsburg spun together a10-0 run that put the Mules back on their heals, with Lathrop managing just three more points in the contest. Plattsburg's deficit proved too much to overcome, however, as Lathrop held out for the win. Gipson put up a game-high 24 points, while fellow Lathrop seniors Caleb Vanderkooi and Devin Sellers had 13 and 16 points, respectively. Without the services of senior Justin McFarland or sophomore Jordan May, Plattsburg senior Damond Lanham still managed 17 points on the night, while Cody DeFreece and Matt Holliman each had nine points. Escapee returns to clinton county jail
Mick told Clinton County Sheriff Roger Pollard, he was tired of hiding and missed Cindy (his wife) and baby. He decided the best thing to do was turn himself in and "pay the price". Reportedly, he said "I was tired of playing jack rabbit". He claimed he scaled the wall and fled into the junk yard north of the jail. The junk yard is approximately two blocks north of the jail. There, he hid out. Later he was able to steal some clothes form a clothes line. He changed in the junk yard leaving his orange jail clothes in the junk yard. Mick claims he went to the independence and Kansas City area and lived with the homeless. Sheriff Pollard state he received many "tips" as to where he could find Mick. Around Janiary 1st he was supposed to be in Witchita Fall, TX. At the same time, he was reported in the state of Maryland. Both tips were unfounded. Near the end of January a tip place him at the home of an old girl friend north of Abeliene, TX. He was not there. In mid-January a tip placed him at a trailer in Rolla, MO. Investigation showed whoever was in the trailer had recently moved. And finally, the Sheriff received a tip last Wednesday, February 6 that Mick was in Plattsburg. Mick was placed in the Clinton County jail on October 17th after violating his probation and for non-support of his child. He quit his employment without permission and failed to notify his parole officer of his change of address. Sheriff Pollard stated the penalty for the jail break could be from one to five years. Back in the orange coveralls and leg irons, Mick appeared before Association Circuit Judge Paul T. Luckenbill, Jr., at 2 p.m. on Monday, February 11 for an arraignment. Clinton County Prosecutor Mitchell Elliott charged Mick with a Class B felony for the jail escape. Mick also faces charges of Class C felony for burglary and stealing and failure to pay child support. Mick stated to the court he was unable to afford a lawyer. Judge Luckenbill advised him he would have benefit of a public defender. His charges will be reviewed Wednesday, February 13. Meanwhile, remains in the Clinton County jail in lieu of $25,000,00 bond. 50 Years Ago - As published in the February 19, 1971 Leader Miss Rosemary Stipe and Gary Campbell were crowned Queen and King of the F.H.A.
