In an election driven primarily by a historic presidential race, voters in Clinton County turned out in droves. Nearly 11,000 voters hit the polls in Clinton County on Tuesday, November 3, to help decide the direction of the state and the country. Of the 15,261 registered voters in Clinton County, 10,932 cast a ballot on Tuesday for a turnout of 71.63 percent. Politically, Clinton County continued to turn a deep red, overhwelmingly favoring President Donald Trump (7,789 votes) over Vice President Joe Biden (2,894) and Missouri Governor Mike Parson (7,508) over Democrat challenger, State Auditor Nicole Galloway (2,999). County voters also gave Amendment 3 - which sought to make changes to lobbyist gifts, contributions and redistricting in Jefferson City - a slight nod (5,792 to 4,743). Locally, county-wide races were scarce. That’s due in large part to Clinton County’s hard turn to the right politically over the last decade. With fewer Democrats competing for seats at the courthouse, many of the 2020 offices were decided in the Republican primaries back in August. Plattsburg voters punched their ballots at Tinnen Town Hall this year due to COVID-19 restrictions at the courthouse, and were generous in doing so. Plattsburg residents strongly approved the continuance of a half-cent capital improvement sales tax, the revenues from which go to fund the municipal - Bodie’s Pool next to Ellis Elementary - as well as the Gathering Place Senior Center in downtown Plattsburg.
Clinton County voters also remained in strong support of Sixth District U.S. Representative Sam Graves. The Republican outgained Democrat challenger Gena L. Ross here by a vote of 7,912 to 2,548. |
