For the first time in two years, local graduations will go on as originally scheduled. Both Plattsburg High School and East Buchanan High School will hold their annual commencement ceremonies this Sunday, May 16, while Lathrop High School will host graduation on Sunday, May 23. Plattsburg High School will hold its graduation at 2 p.m. this Sunday at the new stadium. Masks will not be required and social distancing will be possible with the space of the grandstands. CCR-III Superintendent Dr. Sandy Steggall said the district will keep an eye on the forecast and make a decision about whether to move the event inside on Friday. East Buchanan High School will hold graduation at 2 p.m. on Sunday on Henry Iba Family Court inside EBHS. Masks will be required and the district will encourage families to socially distance as much as possible.
Lathrop High School’s graduation will be a week later on Sunday, May 23, at the LHS football field. If it rains, graduation will be moved inside. In that case, Superintendent Chris Fine said the district likely wouldn’t limit attendance but masks would be required inside when social distancing isn’t possible. In the midst of the pandemic last spring, all three school districts were forced to postpone graduation (along with canceling most of the fourth quarter of the school year). But, Lathrop, Plattsburg and East Buchanan were each able to honor their seniors later in the summer by moving commencement ceremonies outside. |
