Basketball team takes secondThe Bill Burns ClassicLathrop High School hosted its annual Bill Burns Classic basketball tournament last week, welcoming teams from throughout Northwest Missouri for a six-day battle for the championships. The Lathrop Lady Mules bounced back from an early loss to win consolation in the tournament, while the Lathrop boys team finished fourth in their bracket.
The Bicentennial Committee and The Plattsburg Artists Coalition Public Arts Committee in Plattsburg have been very busy planning for the 2021 Missouri Bicentennial events.
Sewer, Street Projects in Lathrop Continue in 2021 The City of Lathrop has undertaken major efforts to update its infrastructure in recent years, and some of those projects will continue right into the new year
The largest among those projects is the ongoing wastewater collection and treatment plant project, with a total cost of approximately $6.6 million. Of that, $6.1 million is being funded through voter-approved general obligation bonds, while $500,000 came from a grant from the state revolving fund. Filings begin for local cities, school districtsIt’s a new year and that means cities and schools will soon select their new leadership moving forward.
The filing period for the April election is open and will run through Tuesday, January 19. The April election, which will focus on city councils and local boards of educations, will be held on Tuesday, April 6. In Lathrop, three seats will be open on the city council. The mayoral seat held by Dean Langner is up for election, and two residents have already filed for the spot – Jennifer (Eads) Morrison and Gabe Goad. As of Monday, there had been no filings for the other two seats, the North Ward seat held by Gerald Snodgrass and the South Ward seat held by Coetta Whiteley. Each seat carries a two-year term. |
